Jerash, Sept 15 (Petra) – Minister of Environment Ayman Suleiman on Monday inaugurated the Arab Environmental Museum, established as part of activities marking Al-Me’rad District’s designation as the Cultural District for 2025. The project was organized by the Green Society for the Protection of Nature and Environment.

Suleiman said the museum reflects genuine Jordanian and Arab efforts and embodies the values of partnership and institutional commitment to serving the environment, society and sustainable development.

He noted that waste management and recycling have become among the most pressing environmental challenges of modern societies, not only due to their direct impact on public health and the environment but also because of their economic potential to contribute to GDP and generate new jobs.

Waste, he said, is no longer a burden but a resource that can be harnessed for the benefit of the nation and its citizens.

Speaking on behalf of the prime minister, Suleiman added that Jordan is witnessing growing awareness and engagement across society on the importance of waste utilization, driven by joint efforts between environmental associations, public and private institutions, and youth-led initiatives that have played a key role in promoting waste separation and eco-friendly alternatives.

He stressed that the opening of the museum is not only a cultural event but also a message of awareness and hope, aimed at making recycling and waste separation a daily practice that reflects Jordanian citizens’ awareness and sense of national responsibility.

Environmental associations from Oman, Arab artists, private institutions and civil society organizations also took part in the opening ceremony, which Suleiman said demonstrates that environmental action is a collective effort to safeguard the planet for future generations.

Ghassan Ayasrah, head of the organizing society, said the museum seeks to foster a culture of environmental preservation and pollution reduction, noting that it features artworks created from recycled materials.

He highlighted past exhibitions, bazaars and workshops held in schools and institutions, through which thousands of students have been trained, and called for greater support for such initiatives.

Ali Fraihat, chairman of the Jordan Environment Society (JES), underlined the vital role played by societies in raising environmental awareness and supporting the ministry’s mission, describing it as the umbrella for such organizations. He praised the efforts behind the museum and their contribution to advancing sustainable development.
